Bentley 4 1/4L
i.e. 'Wire markers' for Pre-WWII R-R/B Automobiles
For 4 1/4L Bentley series G, H, J & K:

E51071-6, Bush - Ignition Wires, 1 ea, on distributor wires, style P.
These likely had circles (as style Pc) even though this part number originated with the late Ghosts where it would have likely been uncircled.

E72986-91, Bush - Ignition Wires, 1 ea, blind marker at the spark plugs. Our style BB.
These likely had circles (as style BcB) even though this part number originated with the PI where it would have likely been uncircled.

For series L & M:

E61372-7, Bush - Ignition Wires, 1 ea, on distributor wires except #4, style Pc.

EB3430, Bush - Ignition Wire, 1 ea, on distributor wire #4, style L4.

E61378-83, Bush - Ignition Wires, 1 ea, blind marker at the spark plugs, style BcB.

Ross-Courtney connectors, 'Type 3/16" dia', with a blind 'B' marker were used at all spark plugs of all series.

The drawing number applicable to the 4 1/4L markers is EB2738. We have not seen the GA but pages 1* and 2* of the undated LOP are titled for 'Large Bore Bentley' and found on the RROC Bentley disc under 3 1/2L Wire Fittings.

The 4 1/4L LOP continues to indicate the use of two coils with two coil wires and connector plugs. No coil wire markers are called for, nor did we expect they would be. There was a change in the part numbers specified for the series L & M cars which likely only indicated a material and possibly a supplier change. The terminals at the spark plug wire ends for all 4 1/4L cars were 3/16" R-C connectors used with blind markers.

The LOP* line for the Erinoid distributor marker E61375 (#4 of our style Pc) to be used on the series L & M cars is crossed out and 'EB3430' is written above. The drawing for EB3430 shows it to be a standard looking #4 marker with a centered, 0.150" tall number but it is drawn 1.25" long. The purpose for such a long marker is unknown and we have found no examples. It has been suggested that such an item was drawn but never produced. We are unconvinced it was not used, but have no definitive proof. A drawing for its manufacture exists, an existing drawing was modified to call for its use, and on 1.6.38 its drawing number was updated and re-issued as EB3888 changing only its ID from 0.265" to 0.281". This would seem to be more effort that expected if this part never existed.
